Product Review: Quinoa Seeds From Sorich Organics

Healthy food has become the need of the day. Quinoa is one such seed which is widely used in breakfast bowls, of which, amazing pictures are posted on instagram, which makes you want to try it out as well. So here I am with a packet of quinoa in my hand, all set to create a breakfast bowl with an instagram picture to kill for!!!! 😀  The Indian version would make Quinoa look like Upma! The breakfast bowls look amazing though:

About the Plant:

I must say, as I searched for the Quinoa Plant , the photographs of the plant were stunning. The plant itself is so colourful and doesn’t appear to be a superfood plant!! As I first saw the pictures, I assumed it to be a flowering plant that could be used for floral decorations.  Have a look at these pictures:

Quinoa, (Chenopodium quinoa), plant species grown for its tiny edible seeds. As a member of the Amaranthaceae family, quinoa is not a true cereal. Its seeds are high in protein and fibre, and its young leaves are also nutritious and can be eaten as a vegetable similar to spinach (to which it is related). The plant is native to the Andean region of South America, where it has been a staple crop for millennia. Touted for its health benefits, quinoa is now grown in a number of countries around the world, including the United States, Canada, Italy, Sweden, and India, but most of it is still grown in Peru and Bolivia.

After harvest, the seeds are processed to remove the bitter-tasting outer seed coat. Versatile for many dishes, cooked quinoa supplies nutrient content similar to wheat and rice, such as moderate amounts of protein, dietary fiber, and minerals. Quinoa is gluten-free.

Quinoa is a little expensive and that might refrain you from making a purchase. But yes, you could give it a try and then decide if you would want to continue with the product. Or maybe you could purchase this once in two months if you like it 🙂
