Quinoa is one such seed which is widely used in breakfast bowls, of which, amazing pictures are posted on instagram, which makes you want to try it out as well. Product Review: Sorich Organics Halem Seeds

The word “Halem” gives a very Middle-East feeling to me, and maybe to you as well right? I just wondered while I looked at the packet of Halem Seeds, as to what in the world was Halem seeds??  On getting a few of these seeds on my palm, the colour of the seeds are reddish-brown. They have a peppery , tangy taste  which I didn’t quite like. The seeds have derived names like cress, garden pepper cress, pepperwort cress, pepperwort pepper grass, mustard and cress or poor man’s pepper, due to this peppery flavour.

So yes, although I didn’t like the taste, and before the seeds went to some corner in the kitchen cupboards, I did some research about this plant and I found it quite interesting. I look forward to using these seeds in my daily cooking as well!

It is readily available in the form shouts and best harvested when the shouts reach 5-10 cm in height. So I’m back with another Superfood review !!!! And this time its the inevitable !!! 😀 Yes, its on Flax seeds from Sorich Organics. I’m sure you all must have given this seed a try by introducing it into your diet. I remember my mother making a powder of this seed and making me have it with water. All i knew was it wasnt tasting good , but it was supposed to be good for my hair. I have already spoken about the brand “Sorich Organics” (click the link to read the post) in my previous blog which will give you an introduction to the brand and its offerings. About the Plant:

Sunflower is a tall, erect, herbaceous annual plant belonging to the family of Asteraceae, in the genus, Helianthus. Its botanical name is Helianthus annuus.

In the farm fields, sunflower heads can be ready for harvesting once they turn brown and dry. In general, the seeds intended to use in confectionery are somewhat larger, sweet, and have striped hulls.

Types of Seeds: Oil-type sunflower seeds are characterized by small size, have more oil content, and feature black hulls. However, both types of seeds can be used for either purpose.

In the stores, one may choose whole-seeds, hulled, roasted, salted, etc., for use. Avoid thin, shriveled seeds or old stocks, as they tend to be out of flavor.

Storage: At home, store whole seeds at room temperature in a bin or jar. However, sunflower kernels should be placed inside an airtight container and stored in the refrigerator.
