Brand Review: Zuci Naturals

Years back, I remember walking into a Health and Glow store in Bangalore while I was doing my Masters and this brand would catch my eye because of its reasonably priced hand sanitizers and wet wipes. I would be so tempted to buy all of the sanitizers cos of the variety offered and the price being so reasonable! Zuci Naturals has been part of my student life and its amazing to see so many improvements and new launches made by the brand!

About the Brand:
It is one of the leading personal care brands from Zodhita Health Solutions Pvt ltd- a health and hygiene enterprise based in Mumbai. Zodhita Health Solution is the 1st Asian subsidiary of Zodhita Inc.-a health and hygiene company based in Newtown, Pennysylvania.

Zuci is derived from the Sanskrit word for clean and pure. Zuci brings a range of nature inpired products to deliver hygiene and beauty for the female go-getter who believes that beauty is incomplete without hygiene.
Zuci, like the on-the-go woman, believes that clean is beautiful.

Product Range:
The brand offers an array of products- hand sanitizers, hand wash, wet wipes, Junior range of hand sanitizers for kids. The other offering is Zuska- which has deodrants for both men and women.

Here are the product offerings by Zuci:
I]Hand sanitizers: They come in a variety of fragrances- cherry, citrus lime, fragrance free, natural, coconut , cucumber, tulsi basil.
The sanitizers have 99.99% germ protection and are a perfect hygiene companion while travelling in public transport. Along with protection against germs, they also moisturise the palms as they are enriched with Vitamin E.

II] Wet Wipes:
The wet wipes come in the below variants:
– Citrus Fruit Extract: Deep pore cleansing
– Aloe Vera Extract : Sunscreen wipes
– Cucumber and mint: For soothing skin
– Chamomile Extract: For all skin types
III] Colourful bag tags are available for the hand sanitizers
IV] HandWash:
– Tropical Fruit Blast
– Cool Citrus Mint
-Ripe Berry Blast
V] Zuska Deodrants: Many variants are available for men and women- I assume an approximate of 6 variants each for men and women.

Coming to my take on the products offered by Zuci, the brand sent across the below 3 products to me and I absolutely loved two of these products:
– The Ripe Berry Blast Hand wash with aloe and vitamin E beads
– Junior range -Mango Hand sanitizer
-Zuska Vogue Deo

So here’s a mini review of all the three products :
1. The Ripe Berry Blast Hand Wash:

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

This is a combination of 3 berries- strawberry fragrance being the most intense. The hand wash not only cleanses and moisturises the hands but leaves behind a lingering fragrance of berries.
My take on this product:
– The bottle is a simple plastic pump bottle . the gold detailing at the base of the pump and the color of the handwash make the bottle attractive.
– This hand wash is purple in colour with orange beads.
– I loved the fragrance.
– The consistency is medium
– My palms feel fresh , clean and the fragrance is way too amazing.
– The moisturising Vitamin E beads and aloe do as promised- my palms didn’t dry out and I looked forward to every hand wash!!!!!

2. The Mango Hand sanitizer from the Junior range:
Since my kid is not of age to use one of these products, i was more than happy to try it out myself 🙂

My take on this product:

– The bottle is a simple transparent one whith a flip cap.
– The product is priced at Rs.50 for 30ml.
– The colour of the product is mild orange with the vitamin E orange coloured beads.
– The bottle is travel friendly, and leak proof.
– The bag tag helps keep it in place than being thrown around in the bag.
– The fragrance is mild, which is good for children.
– It is quite gentle on the hands and doesnt dry them out which is a plus point when it comes to children .
I loved this product!

3) Zuska Vogue Deodrant for Women:
The packaging is a simple pink bottle with the details of the brand and other information in white.

My Take on the product:
The spray is sealed with a lid, which I a plus point, as it helps one to understand if the product has been tampered with or not.
It is alcohol free and skin friendly.
Cons:
– The fragrance gives me a feeling as though I have dusted talcum powder on my body, which is something I don’t like.
– The fragrance is really very strong for me. I prefer deos which are citrus/floral/fresh . I would not prefer a deodorant which gives me a powdery fragrance.
– It is priced at rs.250 for 150ml, which i find a little expensive.
At the price , I think the brand can improve on the packaging and make it a little more attractive.

In short, I loved the hand wash and hand sanitizer ! the deodorant unfortunately isn’t my favourite!
Looking forward for more launches by this brand in the hygiene segment- intimate care wipes and washes, lip balms, hand creams etc.

Sorich Organics Juniper Berry Seeds

The word “Berry” makes everything seem sweet and merry. However, please don’t pop one of these berries into your mouth just on hearing the word “berry”, as your tastebuds might be in for a surprise!!! Juniper Berries aren’t really berries. These berries are not  true berries but a cone with unusually fleshy and merged scales, which give it a berry-like appearance. They are bitter to taste and are best used in marinades and in meat dishes. Juniper berries traditionally have been used to “detoxify” the body and promote healthy digestion and skin health.

More about the Berries:

Juniper berries are the key flavoring in gin, which was originally known as jenever (“juniper”) and was developed in the Netherlands. Juniper berries were used in cooking and for medicinal purposes in ancient Egypt, ancient Greece, and ancient Rome, and have been found in India and other Asian cultures as well.

Juniper has a piney taste with citrus overtones (sometimes compared to rosemary) and is a common ingredient in German food. Juniper berries are a pungent spice that is popular in European cuisine and also gives gin its distinguishing flavor.

Juniper berries are tiny cones of the juniper bush (a relative of the popular landscaping shrub). Most juniper berries used in recipes come from the species Juniperus communis, a plant that grows in northern climates. Not all juniper berries are edible, some berries are toxic.

You can purchase the product via Amazon.in or head to the webpage of SorichOrganics and get in touch with the team.

  • It is a natural antiseptic with anti fungal and antibacterial properties.
  • It may help improve digestion.
  • It helps improve skin conditions like eczema, vitiligo and rashes.
  • can be included as part of a diabetic diet plan

Precautions while using Juniper Berries:

  • Pregnant women should never consume juniper berries in whole or essential oil form as it may potentially cause damage to the unborn child or force uterine contractions.
  • Juniper is also not recommended for those with poor kidney function.
  • It is possible to develop an allergic reaction to juniper berries, which could manifest with skin issues (like a rash) or breathing issues. If you experience any of those conditions after using juniper berries, discontinue use and consult your doctor immediately.
  • Juniper berries may also interact negatively with certain medications, so if you are on any form of medication, you should first consult with your doctor before using juniper berries or juniper berry essential oil.

How to Use Juniper Berries:

If you want a strong juniper aroma and flavor to your dish, crushing fresh berries before adding them to a sauce or marinade is the way to go.

For a more subtle flavor, you can toast the berries, but be careful not to burn them or they’ll taste bitter.

To crush the berries, put a tablespoon or so in a zippered bag and lightly smash them with a meat mallet, hammer or wine bottle. Once they’re flattened, dump them on a cutting board and chop them finely with a chef’s knife before adding to your dish or marinade.

Whole or crushed, juniper berries add a lot of flavor. But you’ll want to be careful when first trying them in a recipe to find the smallest amount to get the most flavor. Too much juniper berry can overpower all the other flavors. As a flavor enhancer , they work best in savory dishes. Try them in a stew or add to your chicken before roasting. The berries pair really well with game, such as venison or duck.

What to cook with Juniper Berries:

Juniper is commonly used with lamb (or mutton) and is particularly good with venison, wild boar, and even domestic pork. You could even add them to a pot of chili, to give a rustic flavor that complements ground smoked chile peppers. Juniper is also a good flavoring to use with roast duck.

To bring out juniper berries’ slight citrus flavor, most recipes call for another fruit such as apples or prunes to be added. You can rub crushed juniper berries into a meat of your choosing before roasting it. Add a little ginger or garlic to the rub for a savory flavor. Or you can stew the berries before marinating or basting the meat with them.

Product Review: Quinoa Seeds From Sorich Organics

Healthy food has become the need of the day. Quinoa is one such seed which is widely used in breakfast bowls, of which, amazing pictures are posted on instagram, which makes you want to try it out as well. So here I am with a packet of quinoa in my hand, all set to create a breakfast bowl with an instagram picture to kill for!!!! 😀  The Indian version would make Quinoa look like Upma! The breakfast bowls look amazing though:

About the Plant:

I must say, as I searched for the Quinoa Plant , the photographs of the plant were stunning. The plant itself is so colourful and doesn’t appear to be a superfood plant!! As I first saw the pictures, I assumed it to be a flowering plant that could be used for floral decorations.  Have a look at these pictures:

Quinoa, (Chenopodium quinoa), plant species grown for its tiny edible seeds. As a member of the Amaranthaceae family, quinoa is not a true cereal. Its seeds are high in protein and fibre, and its young leaves are also nutritious and can be eaten as a vegetable similar to spinach (to which it is related). The plant is native to the Andean region of South America, where it has been a staple crop for millennia. Touted for its health benefits, quinoa is now grown in a number of countries around the world, including the United States, Canada, Italy, Sweden, and India, but most of it is still grown in Peru and Bolivia.

After harvest, the seeds are processed to remove the bitter-tasting outer seed coat. Versatile for many dishes, cooked quinoa supplies nutrient content similar to wheat and rice, such as moderate amounts of protein, dietary fiber, and minerals. Quinoa is gluten-free.

Quinoa is a little expensive and that might refrain you from making a purchase. But yes, you could give it a try and then decide if you would want to continue with the product. Or maybe you could purchase this once in two months if you like it 🙂

Buy the seeds from Amazon.in or visit the brand webpage www.sorichorganics.com to get in touch with the team. To know more about the brand, Click Here.

Product Review: Pumpkin Seeds from Sorich Organics

Hey Folks!!!

Yess! I am back with another product review ! The brand  Sorich Organics needs no introduction, however, I shall post the link of my blog on the brand, right at the end of this blog post! :).

Today’s post is on another Super rich Superfood- Pumpkin Seeds!! These days,we get a lot of these seeds packed and promoted on a different level : giving us information on its benefits to health, nutritional value, etc. My mother would always tell me, during her time, once the pumpkin was cut open, the seeds were taken and dried in the sun and then they would peel off the thin shell protecting the seed and relish on the seed. It was a pass time earlier and a great snack as well!  Little did they know the benefits of snacking on this amazing little seed!  So here I am today to talk about pumpkin seeds, while i snack on them 🙂 .

IMG_5632

About Pumpkins! :

Pumpkins, and their seeds, are native to the Americas, and indigenous species are found across North America, South America, and Central America. The word “pepita” is consistent with this heritage, since it comes from Mexico, where the Spanish phrase “pepita de calabaza” means “little seed of squash”.

Selection and Storage:

Pumpkin seeds are generally available in prepackaged containers as well as bulk bins. Just as with any other food that you may purchase in the bulk section, make sure that the bins containing the pumpkin seeds are covered and that the store has a good product turnover so as to ensure the seeds’ maximal freshness.

Whether purchasing pumpkin seeds in bulk or in a packaged container, make sure that there is no evidence of moisture or insect damage and that they are not shriveled. If it is possible to smell the pumpkin seeds, do so in order to ensure that they are not rancid or musty.

By purchasing organic, you will avoid unnecessary exposure to potential contaminants. By purchasing raw, you will be able to control the roasting time and temperature, and avoid unnecessary damage to helpful fats present in the seeds. At the same time, you will be able to bring out the full flavors of the pumpkin seeds through roasting.

Pumpkin seeds should be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator. While they may stay edible for several months, they seem to lose their peak freshness after about one to two months.

About Sorich Organics Pumpkin Seeds:

Price: Rs.149

Quantity: 100gm (Available in 200gm, 400gm)

Yogabars: Eat Better, Feel Better, Be Better

I guess we all have the habit of binging on snacks during the day (snacks, by the way, is a reference to chips, biscuits and all food items termed oily and unhealthy yet delicious!). There are a lot of protein bars/snack bars/cereal bars in the market, the aim of these products being to help us eat healthy and give up on binge eating. However its not as easy as it sounds right? I never reach out to these products in the supermarket. Their packaging never makes me fall in love with them and crave to try them out. The very thought of digging my teeth into a cereal bar makes me go and reach out for a bar of chocolate and i end up purchasing all the food that i am not supposed to snack on. I came across a new product which made me want to give it a try: Yogabars was kind enough to send me few of their delicious yet healthy snack bars and I was blown away by the quality, quantity, pricing and packaging of the product. They have two variants: Snack bars and Protein Bars ; so you could make the right choice !

IMG_0687

  7. Attractive Packaging
  8. Reasonably priced compared to other bars in the market.

Cons:

  1. The only drawback is they are not available in smaller cities, and one has to try products based on word of mouth based on which the purchase can be made online on their official site. It would be great to first try single bars from a supermarket which would make the purchase easier.

Overall, these snack bars are good to carry around in your handbag /gymbag to satiate those hunger pangs and avoid binging on chips !!! It is a must try snack bar if you are health conscious or aim to be or if you just love trying out such stuff too!! The protein bars are good if you are into fitness /sport, etc., which would definitely help ! And yes, the packaging is cool too!!! My personal favourite snack bars are Cardamom and coconut, Vanilla and almond, Chocolate Chunk and Nut & Seed. I haven’t tried the protein bars yet. I am tempted to try them out though!! I only wish the single packs were available in the supermarket!!!
